When given the opportunity to create a poster advocating for mental health for AIGA’s “Make The World Less Sad” campaign, I knew I wanted to take advantage. This piece was submitted and displayed in Greensboro, NC among other artwork. My professor, who attended the event, relayed that the judges considered my piece to be a strong runner-up. It was also posted on the AIGA North Carolina instagram account.
This was more of a low-pressure piece of work, with very wide restraints, and I enjoyed the process of using Adobe InDesign to combine imagery and typography. My goal was to create something that visually felt like happiness, without even necessarily needing the text to suggest that concept. I think that these warm, light, aura-like images absolutely accomplish that. That being said, coming up with different iterations of phrases to incorporate was very enjoyable, and allowed me to utilize my creative writing brain in combination with my design brain.
Here, you can see my first iteration of the design, then how I altered my final draft for the campaign, and how I later made small additional changes to the final draft.
An early iteration compared to the final piece!
First "final" draft displayed in at the event in Greensboro, and on the AIGA Instagram.
